What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

The process itself aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focusing the unconscious part. This heightened state of awareness – reached using skilled relaxation techniques – allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions for change.

The feeling is often compared to the relaxed state between wakefulness and sleep.

How can Hypnosis help?

Hypnosis is usually considered an aid to healing because the hypnotic state allows you to explore less than comfortable thoughts, feelings, and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds. … Hypnosis can be used in two ways, as positive suggestion therapy or for you to use for self analysis.

What will happen during the session?

First, we will have a chat to discuss what you hope to achieve and agree what methods we will use.

After this, I will :

  • lead you into a deeply relaxed state
  • use your agreed methods to help you towards your goals on a deep unconscious level – for example, suggesting that you don’t want to carry out a certain habit
  • gradually bring you out of the trance

You’re fully in control when experiencing hypnosis and don’t have to take on the suggestions if you don’t want to.

If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state at any point you want too.

Hypnosis doesn’t work if you don’t want to be hypnotised.
